4-Wheeler's
Bible
by Jim Allen
Four-Wheel drive is more than a way to climb a snowy
driveway or escape a lowed-in parking space. Pushed hard, a good 4x4
can take a competent driver to places the pavement-bound masses could
hardly imagine - up mountains, across streams, over boulders, through
snow, mud, and sand. Four-wheeling brings the freedom to leave daily
toils behind and venture into the rugged wilderness. All it takes is
knowledge, planning, and the proper equipment.
In nearly 30 years in the sport, including work as an
off-road instructor for Land Rover, Jim Allen has seen it all - and from
some pretty hairy angles. In the 4-Wheeler's Bible,
this veteran wheeler and writer provides a thorough, insightful look at
the vehicles, accessories, tricks, and techniques you'll need to get you
there and back safely. Numerous color photos, illustrations, and
sidebars show you what works, how it works, what to do, and what to
avoid. At the back of the book is a glossary that defines the lingo
of the four-wheeling world, and a list of suppliers who can help you build
any rig you can imagine.
Whether you've scratched and clawed your way with the best
of them, or just imagined it from a comfy chair, the 4-Wheeler's
Bible will help you down the trail. Virtually anyone can
enjoy the thrill and challenge of four-wheeling, at the wheel, as a
spotter, or just along for the ride. Before you load up, read up and
be prepared, no matter where the trail leads.
About the author:
Jim Allen is the author of many books on Jeep or
four-wheel drive topics and also some 1,500 magazine
articles on four-wheeling and automotive topics in general. An avid
four-wheeler since leaving the U.S. Army in 1975, Allen spent nearly 20
years as a professional and certified mechanic before going full-time
into writing. He also spent three years as an off-highway driving
instructor for Land Rover North America. Tracing the origins of
four-wheel drive is one of his particular interests, both personally and
professionally.
