The Garmin GPS V is one versatile navigator that delivers automatic routing, detailed mapping and WAAS accuracy capability — all in a compact handheld GPS. The Garmin GPS V comes with the MapSource City Select CD, which gives you access to detailed street-level maps with locations of restaurants, hotels and other services. Use the Garmin GPS V to look up a location and it will automatically calculate a route and guide you to your destination with turn-by-turn directions and audible beeps that alert you to upcoming turns. You can even switch the display from horizontal, for mounting on a bike or a vehicle dash, to vertical for handheld use.

The Garmin GPS V supports the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) differential GPS corrections through a system of ground stations and geosyncronous satellites. Without any additional equipment or fees, the Garmin eTrex Legend GPS uses WAAS to realize position accuracy of better than 9 feet, 95% of the time (typical)*.

*WAAS is available in Americas only. Accuracy may be degraded when view of the horizon is obstructed by trees or mountains.

The Garmin GPS V is ideal for business or vacation travel, hiking, biking and other outdoor adventures. Select a location and it will automatically calculate a route and guide you to your destination.

Garmin MapSource City Select is designed specifically for the Garmin GPS V. The software contains detailed maps of major metropolitan areas in 7 different pre-defined regions in the U.S. and Canada - choose the region you travel the most. City Select includes highways, interstates, business and residential streets with attributes such as turn restrictions, speed categories and other navigation features. The software automatically creates point-to-point routes in MapSource and on the Garmin GPS V. It also displays points of interest such as food and drink, lodging, attractions, entertainment, shopping and emergency services. This map detail and data may be viewed on both the personal computer and with data downloaded to Garmin GPS V.

With MapSource City Select, customers will have access to one region area of their choice. There are currently 7 Regions that together provide coverage for the United States and Canada. The Region must be unlocked, which can be done through GARMIN via our unlock pages or by phone.

To see if City Select map detail includes the areas you are interested in, go to Garmin's website and choose City Select from the drop down MapSource Map Viewer Menu. MapSource MetroGuide detail can also be viewed there.

With your purchase of the Garmin GPS V, which contains the MapSource City Select CD, you will be able to view and download maps from one of the Regions shown at left. A certificate included with this software explains how to obtain a code to "unlock" the Region of your choice. An optional Unlock Coupon for the entire USA and Canada is available as an option (see below). Internet access is recommended for the unlock process.

Think of MapSource™ as an atlas that contains many smaller maps. By choosing several of these maps, you can make a map set. This map set can then be transferred to your GARMIN GPS, which allows you to tailor the map detail for the geographic areas you wish to view. For instance, if you are planning a trip by car, your map set might only need to include those maps that are along your intended driving route. MapSource gives you the flexibility to choose the extent of the mapping coverage.

Use the trip and waypoint manager functions to create waypoints, routes, and tracks, and transfer them between your GARMIN GPS and your PC. This is excellent for planning your next outdoor adventure, business trip, vacation, or recreational outing without ever leaving your house.
