BUYER'S GUIDE
JEEP
by Jim Allen
Over the past 60 years, Jeep has become a word that gets
instant understanding in any language from Spanish to Swahili. More
than just a vehicle, Jeeps have become unofficial ambassadors in every
corner of the globe. They are an Amercian icon that has been woven
into the fabric of hisory and day-to-day life worldwide.
Whether you are looking for a daily driver or a collector
vehicle, the Illustrated Buyer's Guide: JEEP
is the information resource on all Jeep models from 1940 to 1999.
With such a long-term and widespread popularity, Jeeps,
new and old, are still much sought after today. This book offers
history, technical specs, option lists and even production information on
(virtually) every 4x4 and 4x2 Jeep model produced. This includes the
Universal, Dispatcher, Jeepster Commando, Forward Control, Commanche,
Wagoneer, Gladiator, J-Series truck, Wrangler, Jeepster, Grand Cherokee,
and Cherokee. Even more obscure civilian models are covered like the
Fleetvan, the Glala Surrey, the CJ-10, and Hurst Commando. Military
Jeeps are also well represented, starting with the 1940 pilot and 1941
prototype models through postwar Jeeps.
A special technical detail section on each model includes
Collector's Ratings for "Day-to-Day", "Off-Highway",
"Investment Potential", and "Parts
Availability". Typical Specifications for Engine, Transmission,
Transfer Case, Axles, Brakes, Tires & Wheels, Dimensions and
Capacities, along with Factory Options, Colors, Major Changes, Production
Numbers, Serial Number Information, Engine Number Information and
Collectability Notes are also included for each model.
With detailed text and more than 200 photographs, the Illustrated
Buyer's Guide: JEEP is a must-have resource for any
Jeep collector, fan or historian.
